  • 07/21 - GINIEMAI: This singer-songwriter from Barcelona started playing guitar and writing her songs at a very young age. She is one of the members of the indie folk band River Omelet. With them she has performed in mythical venues such as Castell de Montjuïc, Sala Apolo or the Porta Ferrada Festival. Some of his references are Amy Winehouse, Lana del Rey or Leonard Cohen.

CETT-UB students have developed improvement projects for the rooms of the Hotel Alimara following the design thinking methodology.

WHAT IS DESIGN THINKING?

Design thinking is a methodology or work process that helps teams to develop their creativity, fostering collaboration and empathy. Its applicability is not limited only to the field of design, but extends to various areas such as business, marketing, products and, in this case, education and the hotel sector.

The subject of "Hotel Experience Management" of the Master's Degree in Hotel Management at CETT-UB has taken advantage of the principles of design thinking to provide students with the necessary tools to analyze and understand the spaces of a contemporary hotel.

In this sense, a practical activity has been carried out focusing on the adaptation and redesign of a hotel room, taking as a case study the possible improvements that can be applied to the current rooms of the Hotel Alimara.

FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE HOTEL

The master's students have had the opportunity to visit the hotel, take measurements and reflect on critical aspects that could be improved in the rooms. Approaches such as the profile of the current customer have been considered to focus on the redesign of the interior of the rooms.

These classroom activities have generated positive results, as the merger between the university center and the hotel has been noticed in practice, generating productive synergies that translate into substantial improvements for the hotel and its clients as well as for CETT and its students.

Design thinking allows the construction of innovative ideas by solving ill-defined or particularly challenging problems, as well as by focusing on the most creative and productive solutions. It is also a means to generate greater value for the user in products and services.

By applying this process in both academic and hotel environments, the user is placed at the center of the improvement process, seeking beneficial results for all parties involved.

CETT-ALIMARA MERGER BEARS FRUIT

By taking the design thinking process from the hotel to the classrooms and then back to the hotel in the form of concrete improvements, we achieve that the fusion between CETT and the Alimara hotel creates constructive projects that energize the sector, boost the creativity and curiosity of the hotel management students and improve the customer experience in the hotel.

Hotel management students benefit by boosting their creativity and curiosity, while improving their practical skills. On the other hand, the hotel receives new ideas and innovative approaches to improve the customer experience.

In short, design thinking has become a powerful tool for generating innovative ideas and effective solutions. Its application in the context of the CETT campus has proven to be fruitful, promoting experiential learning and the development of joint projects that enrich both the education of CETT students and the quality of Alimara hotel services.

HOTEL ALIMARA PARTICIPATES IN THE TECNOFORUM HOTEL 2023

Hotel Alimara was present at the recent edition of TecnoHotel Forum, held at the Palacio de Congresos de Barcelona (Fira de Montjuïc).

TecnoHotel is the only magazine in Spanish specialized in analyzing and communicating the keys that, due to their transformation and constant evolution, are of most interest to tourism leaders in the 21st century.

In addition, on an annual basis, it organizes the TecnoHotel Forum, a congress where technology companies and professionals from the hotel sector meet, presenting and analyzing the latest trends in Revenue Management, talent management, digital marketing and the customer experience sector.

HOTEL UNIVERSITARIO BARCELONA

It explored everything you need to know for the digital transformation of the hotel industry, people management (internal and external) and the role architecture plays in making guests fall in love.

During the event, Hotel Alimara was represented by Álvaro Arrieta, director of the Master in Hotel and Restaurant Management at CETT-UB. In his presentation, Álvaro addressed a crucial issue for the hotel sector: the opportunities for mergers between companies and universities, taking as an example the successful case of Hotel Alimara.

BUSINESS-UNIVERSITY COLLABORATION, KEY TO THE TOURISM AND HOTEL SECTOR

Álvaro Arrieta shared his experience in improving talent in the hotel sector through the merger between the hotel and academic fields, with the example of the CETT Campus and the Hotel Alimara.

Alimara's location, in the heart of the university campus and directly linked to the study center, plays a fundamental role in training, research and knowledge transfer in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy.

In his presentation, the director of the Master's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management highlighted the four main dimensions of the university hotel model according to his criteria: training, where the aim is to integrate learning into an innovative gastronomic and hotel experience; R&D&I, researching, developing and innovating sustainable solutions for the hotel industry; hopitality services, with the objective of offering excellent and memorable services to clients; and the dimension linked to society, to promote social responsibility and the creation of the CETT community integrated into its environment and generating a positive social return.

Álvaro also presented some of the most outstanding projects of the university hotel model being built by CETT and Hotel Alimara, such as the similarities between hotel and university hospital, the innovative gastronomic project "Gastrosense" or the Alimara Lab.

ALIMARA AWARDS

The 38th edition of the Alimara Awards distinguished the projects that during the last year have provided an innovative vision in the field ofexperiences, digitalization, sustainability and research applied to the tourism, hotel and gastronomic sectors. The awards ceremony took place at the La Noche de los Alimara ceremony held in the Catalonia Room of our hotel.

The CETT Alimara Barcelona Awards are organized by CETT, a university center of reference in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy attached to the University of Barcelona, together with the B-Travel Tourism Show. In collaboration with the World Tourism Organization and the Generalitat de Catalunya.

CETT TALENT

CETT Talentt, the career marketplace of reference in the tourism, hotel and gastronomy sector, connected more than 600 students and alumni of CETT with companies in these sectors. Held at the facilities of the Hotel Alimara, the event was attended by a wide representation of the business network of reference in these economic areas.

Hotel Alimara also had a stand where it could orient future professionals in the hotel sector and offer the opportunity to work in a pioneering university hotel that knows first-hand the trends in the tourism and hotel sector.

GASTRONOMIC MEETING

The Hotel Alimara hosted the opening day of the XVII Trobada Gastronòmica del CETT-UB, which focused its discourse on sustainable gastronomy and creativity and featured presentations by chef Sergio Torres, from Hermanos Torres, and the gastronomic journalist of La Vanguardia Cristina Jolonch.

Recently, Hotel Alimara has renewed its social commitment through an extension of the collaboration agreement that has been in place for the last few yearswith the non-profit organization Nutrició Sense Fronteres.

This NGO has been working since 2005 to fight against inequality in the world in the field of nutrition and food for the most discriminated groups.

Under the prism of cooperation, training, equity and capacity building, Nutrició Sense Fronteres promotes the balanced use of food resources and solidarity among peoples, a mission aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

THE "SHARE THE FOOD" PROJECT OF NUTRICIÓ SENSE FRONTERES

Since 2012, Hotel Alimara has been collaborating with the "Share Food" project to promote networking to guarantee the right to healthy food through the reduction of food waste with the aim of promoting autonomy and empowerment of people while reducing the ecological footprint by reducing the destruction of food surplus.

BARCELONA MUST-SEE: THE LABYRINTH OF HORTA

One of the must-see places in Barcelona, which appears in all the travel guides of the city, is undoubtedly this labyrinthine park located in Passeig de les Castanyes 1, in the district of Horta-Guinardó, in the Montbau neighborhood, which was inaugurated as a public park in 1971.

This park includes the oldest preserved garden in Barcelona. Made up, for the most part, of majestic cypress trees, the heart of the park is a green labyrinth that invites visitors to play, to get lost and find themselves in its corners and experience the thrill of living a little adventure.

With the debate still alive as to whether it is a romantic or neoclassical park, the Laberint d'Horta is a garden-museum that struggles with the duality of belonging to two exciting eras. It was born neoclassical in 1791 and grew and was completed as romantic in 1853.

This growth is a journey through stone and vegetation that visitors will go through as they walk through its facilities.

THE SECRETS OF THE LABERINT D'HORTA, BARCELONA'S OLDEST GARDEN

From the Hotel Alimara, you can reach the Laberint d'Horta on foot in less than 10 minutes or by car in less than 5 minutes. The park has free parking with limited capacity. Undoubtedly, it is a visit you can not miss during your stay in Barcelona.

Hotel Alimara has been one of the 5 selected hotels in Barcelona to participate in a pilot program that evaluates how we can adapt the best hotels in Barcelona to turn them into a sustainable and low environmental impact space.

The CIRC HOTEL project created by Club EMAS aims to transfer the concept of circular economy and symbiosis to the tourism services sector (accommodation).

It aims to achieve this through practical actions of prevention, reuse and transformation of materials in order to reduce waste generation and find solutions within the hotel itself or with other organizations, as well as to create new products that have a high commercial, environmental and social value.

BECOMING MORE SUSTAINABLE: THE CHALLENGE FOR HOTELS IN THE 21ST CENTURY

The EMAS Club is a private, non-profit association, formed by companies and other organizations from different sectors and sizes, which have the common goal of environmental improvement, materialized in their participation with the Community Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).

The companies and organizations that are part of the EMAS Club are characterized by their voluntary efforts in defense of the environment beyond compliance with environmental legislation.

On February 23, the EMAS Club presented the results of its study and the conclusions of good practices that hotels can apply now to become more sustainable .

Hotel Alimara, along with the other participants in the project, explained their experience through the presentation of its director, Eva Izquierdo, and the changes they have implemented to be more environmentally responsible and actively participate in the circular economy.
